The Dorsi Glider

Alan has been treating patients for over 30 years, but in 2007, Alan became a patient when he required ankle surgery for an over-use injury. As part of his own rehabilitation and recovery, he benefitted from a manual treatment one of his colleagues performed on his ankle to improve dorsiflexion, which is the movement of the ankle joint that involves raising the toes upward towards the shin.

 

This experience sparked a creative and practical drive in Alan, and he designed a device for patients to use on their own to mobilize the tibia and talus joint. He called his invention the Dorsi Glider. It’s been used not only by many patients over the years as part of their therapy sessions, but it’s also been researched by the Physical Therapy Department at George Washington University.
